We've really enjoyed the wood stove insert, which easily heats the upstairs and is very cozy in the long Alaskan winters. We are about a 10 minute walk from two beautiful parks: Johns Park, with wooded trails and inlet views, and South Anchorage Sports Park, which has amazing children's playground equipment, a dog park, and ball fields. We like the friendly neighborhood atmosphere and it feels like we aren't actually living in Anchorage. We love that we have easy access to Minnesota and Seward Highway, so it's really quick to get downtown or get out of Anchorage. Our commute downtown was generally 15 minutes long. We think our home is well suited to someone who likes gardening and is interested in the feel of living outside of Anchorage but with a short commute and easy access to Anchorage amenities. We planted Alaska-hardy varieties of raspberries, blueberries, strawberries, rhubarb, and asparagus, and the house has three young apple trees and several crab apples.
